I missed the date by mistake to register for classes. The deadline was the 18th, but there is a 2 week grace period where I can pay a late. As I was writing this, the registrar's office called. For some reason they are in pittsburgh, not local. Luckily they were able to squeeze me into some classes, Not the ones I want, but ones I need. I guess thats the price you pay for being late. Anyway, this has had me freaked out since about 5 minutes after I wrote my goodnight post last night. I didnt sleep well last night and I have some pretty bad heart burn. I just needed to type it all out to help me cope with the stress.
A little background: The past 5 years I havent been a really good student, I had severe anxiety and could not go to school in the second quarter of my senior year in high school 2011. I eventually had to drop out. I ended up going to an IEP school in the local school district, and eventually graduating in the winter of last year. I had realized that my anxiety was caused by a side effect of the Asthma drug Singulair, I had been taking it for 14 years and went off of it in November 2012. I no longer have this issue, so now that I'm trying to be a good student In Art School, its kind of unnerving when I screw up. I really dont want to fall into old habits. Anyway thanks for listening, I consider you guys my second family and Its nice to have some camaraderie.

Good luck with that. I also had problems with school and stress and eventually I had to stop. What art are you studying?

First of all, I expected this to be another 'omg girls are so confusing' post. (No offense to you guys that post those, I just see them a lot)
I will say that I'm proud of you (I sound like your friggin' dad) for going back to school, even after you had issues. It takes a real man to get right back on the horse to success; many would just say "well, I have a job, so why go back".
Keep at it, things will turn around in time. And register way in advance next time. I registered way back in April and got into the classes I want, when I want them.

Best of luck, my brother is kind of going through similar stuff (not going to the college he wants to, not in all the classes he wants) and it's definitely tough. Now that classes have actually started it hasn't been too bad for him.

Wow... I'm sorry man, for both the school deadline and that you were having issues with that drug...
I'm sure you'll persevere though! And if you're ever feeling down, just come talk to us!
I wouldn't really understand the whole anxiety issue though, but as someone who had loooong nights not being able to sleep because of school, I fully feel your pain man.

First things first, what's in the past is in the past and there is nothing you can do to change that so don't worry about that and just try to have the best semester you can. As for the future try to register for classes the first day you're able to. Good classes go fast.

Thanks for the support. I really didnt want a GED. I plan on registering for classes next quarter the day its available. I usually get some sort of notification, I didnt this quarter. I just did the math last night and realized I screwed up.

Good on you. A former friend of mine (he hates me because I drive an old BMW because he's poor people) decided that instead of getting his high school diploma by making up two classes he failed senior year, that a GED would be better.
He currently works in a factory doing hard, physical labor 9-10 hours a day. He makes around $10 an hour and will be lucky to get a $.50 raise by the end of the year, AND he doesn't have time to work on the Celica All-Trac Turbo I sold him, because he works 6 day weeks.
So basically, you made the right choice. Though please tell me you're in graphic design or some other profitable art field?

Glad you got things straightened out and FYI, if Oppo alone isn't cutting it, I dated someone with pretty severe anxiety, and talking to a therapist helped him find better strategies for dealing with it.

Good luck! I've been in a veeeeery similar place so I feel your feels.

just don't bury your head in the sand when it comes to problems like that. I used to do that in college until like the very last second. I would block things out like they didn't exist rather than get anxiety. It has screwed me pretty hard(just barely made it through). Do things early and you won't have anxiety about things you haven't done.

The anxiety was caused by singulair, its down to normal levels now that I'm off of it. Talking therapy never worked because the cause was chemical. I tried TMS, EMDR and pharmacological intervention as well. Nothing worked, also My mom is A Licensed psychotherapist. So in terms of available psychiatric help, I think I'm Okay.

Nice. I was interested in studying that but ended up studying management in school and apprenticing at glass blowing shops.

This is when the "make friends with registrar/administrative professionals" strategy is clutch. Buy microbrews/steak/chocolate/flowers as appropriate. Be really polite. Tell them how much it means to you and ask for help. Be ready to be sent to professors to beg to be added to classes manually too.

GOOD IDEA except the registrar is in pittsburgh and my school is in denver. My school is part of a national network of Art Institutes, including the one in chicago. The registrar registers students for all school campuses across the US

If calling doesn't work, consider getting somebody else to go to that registrar in person for you or commuter style flying on standby.
